20th Century Fox Theme Park Construction Update 2017

It is now more than 3 years since closing of Resort World Genting's Outdoor Theme Park and announcement to build a new 20th Century Fox Theme Park. The opening date has been pushed back again and again, with the latest announcement last year saying that the park will open in early 2017. However, from what I saw at construction site, I honestly think that 20th Century Fox Theme Park will not open till at least 2018, or at the earliest, November 2017.

Overview of the construction of 20th Century Fox Theme Park at Resorts World Genting

You may see the previous construction update in March 2015 here.

Current Progress

The photos are taken in the morning of January 3rd, 2017. From what I see, the construction is mainly focused on reinforced concrete works, most likely for E&M and service facilities for the theme park. No attraction structures or equipment is seen anywhere around the site.

Reinforced concrete works underway for service level and floor slab of the theme park. According to concept art, this area is probably where an artificial mountain is located

As a sign of the slow progress, the foundation piles have still not been "shaved off" from the base slab (center right side).

The new shopping and entertainment center Sky Avenue (background) is already partially open to the public, but the construction is still not done.

This area seems to be the big ship we see on the concept art. Again, notice that they are still doing concrete works

Even the facade of Sky Avenue has not been painted...

As you can see, although there is progress from since the last construction update, the theme park is far from finished. There are still a lot of things to do including 1) finishing all Reinforced Concrete works, 2) installing electric and mechanical systems, 3) install attractions, 4) facade and finishing, 5) testing of rides and special effects. All these works in total can easily take 1 year to complete.

And if you are wondering why Sky Avenue is not painted, I suspect its because they want to add some themeing to the wall to match the rides at that area, so its redundant to paint first then add a new facade when the theme park is almost complete.

Other works:

However, it is not all bad news. For example, the new Awana Skyway is already open and the parking lot at Awana Skyway station is in its final stages of construction. Although you can ride the skyway, you have to do so from the resort rather than from Awana because most tour buses still drive up to Mushroom Farm bus termimal near the peak.

Finishing works for the huge parking and shopping facility at Awana Station is almost complete

In addition, the Chin Swee Temple station is almost complete and will soon open. This will add a new attraction to Resort World Genting's substantial lineup of new attractions.

Finally, refurbishment works for Theme Park hotel is underway. Most of the work seems to be cosmetic in nature.

As you can see, although the construction at Resorts World Genting is far from complete, there is a lot of progress made. Within the next few months, the shops and restaurants at Sky Avenue will open which will (almost, I think) double the dining and retail options at the resort. Also, to me the Awana Skyway ride is a great new attraction in itself.
