KL MRT: All you need to know!

When I first learnt about KL's first MRT project (Sungei Buloh Kajang (SBK) line) in 2013, I was both excited and skeptical. On one hand, I am glad that Malaysia, or at least KL, is moving towards a more public transport oriented system. On the other, my friends and relatives in Malaysia were telling me about how the project will fail simply because there is no way to build a transport system extensive enough to cover all areas of KL. Now that SBK line is open, let's see how KL has done.

For many visitors, the night markets are all about food, cheap bargains and experiencing the local culture. Many of my friends tell me the night markets in Taiwan WAY are better than Malaysia. 20th Century Fox Theme Park Construction Update 2017

It is now more than 3 years since closing of Resort World Genting's Outdoor Theme Park and announcement to build a new 20th Century Fox Theme Park. The opening date has been pushed back again and again, with the latest announcement last year saying that the park will open in early 2017. However, from what I saw at construction site, I honestly think that 20th Century Fox Theme Park will not open till at least 2018, or at the earliest, November 2017.

Indoor Rock Climbing @ Camp5 Malaysia

Rock climbing can be both a sport and a tourist activity. Camp5, located at 1 Utama Shopping Center in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia is a popular indoor climbing spot that provides both a good recreational activity for tourists and locals and a comprehensive training ground for the pros. Due to low prices, convenient venue and air-con, it is the preferred overseas rock climbing venue for climbing enthusiasts and interest groups from Singapore.

I have not posted on this blog for a long time, but this climbing trip is special to me because it is the first time I go overseas with friends (without teachers, parents, you know)

Penang Island - Unlocking Malaysian Culture

Experiencing Penang and writing this blog is unique. There are no theme parks, integrated resorts or casinos at Penang. Yet, the state of Penang is considered one of the best tourist destinations in Malaysia. For one, the capital of Penang, George Town, is a UNESCO heritage site. However, I think what really sets Penang apart from the rest of Malaysia is the food. Somehow, the fried kway teow, laksa and other Malaysian favourites are so much better there.

We did not have much chance to eat, though, since we visited Penang via a cruise and the ship caters all meals. In fact, everything covered in this blog is completed in 4 hours.

Sunway Lagoon Malaysia Trip Report

Sunway Lagoon is not a big name park like Disney or Universal, but it is among the top 10 most visited water parks in Asia. It is currently home to one of the world's largest wave pools and the world's largest funnel type water slide. Although this park also has substantial theme park and wildlife park facilities, most people will associate Sunway Lagoon as a water park.

3 Beautiful Places beyond the Theme Park of KL

While I usually crave for theme parks, this trip to Malaysia has exposed me to the wilder side of things. From farm visits through fireflies to cave exploration, I have seen attractions that can probably never be emulated at a theme park.

Little innovations in KL's Rail Network

Most people have the impression that Singapore is ahead of Malaysia in every aspect of life. That may be true 10 years ago, but Kuala Lumpur's (KL) transformation has placed its rail transport system ahead of Singapore's. Granted, it may not be as technologically sophisticated or aesthetically pretentious as Singapore's, but my experience there shows that some customer-oriented initiatives can succeed over mere money and technology.

Analysis of KLIA Terminal 2

After nearly 1 year of delays, Terminal 2 at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA T2) is finally open to the public on 2nd May 2014. I have a chance to visit this terminal 1 month after it's opening, and it was a mixed experience at the airport. I personally loved the wide and well lit spaces of the terminal, though the lack of travelators in the building is a major drawback for luggage laden passengers.

Just some background, KLIA T2 was opened in response to the explosion of low-cost carriers in the Southeast Asian region. This terminal is dedicated to budget airlines like Air Cebu and AirAsia, but with the comforts and conveniences of a mainstream airport terminal.
