HK's Historic Transport: Ding Ding and Star Ferry

Hong Kong's modern public transport system consists mainly of buses and the MTR. However, tt is also known for it's historic transport systems: A electric streetcar called the Ding Ding, and the green coloured ferries that people used to cross the harbour, known today as Star Ferry. What makes these historic systems unique is that they are still used by daily commuters!

Hong Kong Railway Museum and Tai Po Market

Before the widespread development of roads in the mid 20th century, the main form of transportation for many industrialised countries are railways. Today, I visited the Hong Kong Railway Museum to find out more about how the railway helped shape the city. While I was there, I also visited a couple of sites at Tai Po Market.

Jet Ski in Dameisha Beach, Shenzhen

China is not well known for beautiful beaches...or is it? Shenzhen, a major city in the Pearl River Delta, has a decent collection of good quality beaches. Among these, Dameisha is one of the largest, is free of charge to enter and also the nearest from the city center! In addition to sand and sea, it also offers water sports activities like jet ski, snorkeling and parasailing, albeit in a very...theme park I should explain later.

Jinjiang Action Park: the RCT3 theme park!

Jinjiang Action Park 锦江乐园 is a AAAA attraction located in Shanghai, China. It features a world class roller coaster, a huge observation wheel and several other attractions. But for me, this theme park has the distinction of being very similar to a theme park designed in Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, from the rides and ticketing system to the stalls and decorations.

Happy Valley Shanghai: Best roller coaster collection in China!

Happy Valley Shanghai has an impressive lineup of roller coasters. Although  7 does not sound too impressive, at least 3 of the roller coasters are the best in the industry. Of course, Happy Valley Shanghai also has some decent family and flat rides, but I think most visitors are drawn to the roller coasters.

Shanghai Disneyland is Disney's newest theme park, located in the most populous country in the world - China. As such, expect the theme park to be crowded on most days. Pingshan Heritage Trail and Tsing Shan Monastery are two iconic heritage attractions in Tuen Mun, Hong Kong. They showcase the culture and architecture of traditional Hong Kong and also allows guests to better understand Buddhist and Taoist religion. I visited these 2 places as part of the history and culture course I studied in Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Hong Kong is a modern, bustling city with tall skyscrapers. Yet, it is also home to hundreds of smaller islands, some of which are relatively undeveloped and the residents still live a slower paced, more rural lifestyle. In this blog post, I shall cover my experience at Lamma Island, the 3rd largest island in Hong Kong and a popular destination for outdoor and seafood lovers.

8 ways to save money at Hong Kong Disneyland

Hong Kong Disneyland is expensive. Enough said. With admission ticket prices of  HKD589 (SGD 105), it is almost 50% more expensive than Hong Kong Ocean Park and Universal Studios Singapore. Unlike the other 2 attractions, Hong Kong Disneyland ticket prices are quite sticky and it is hard to find a substantial discount. That is why you have to save money through other ways.

The NEW Awana Skyway @ Genting Highlands

In 2014, the old Awana Skyway closes after 40 years in operation. This is replaced by the new Awana Skyway which opened in December 2016. I had the privilege of experiencing this cable car just less than 1 month after it opened, and I think it a good step-up not just from the old Awana Skyway, but the existing Genting Skyway as well!

Yunnan Nationalities Village 云南民族村 Trip Report

Yunnan Nationalities Village 云南民族村 is a theme park style attraction that showcases the diverse culture and ethnic minorities in Yunnan. You can think of it as Disney's Epcot that focuses on just ethnic minorities in one province - without all the rides and fanciful gimmicks. For new visitors to Yunnan, it provides an excellent summary of the various ethnic minorities that stay within this province of China.

KL MRT: All you need to know!

When I first learnt about KL's first MRT project (Sungei Buloh Kajang (SBK) line) in 2013, I was both excited and skeptical. On one hand, I am glad that Malaysia, or at least KL, is moving towards a more public transport oriented system. On the other, my friends and relatives in Malaysia were telling me about how the project will fail simply because there is no way to build a transport system extensive enough to cover all areas of KL. Now that SBK line is open, let's see how KL has done.

Night Market: Taiwan vs Malaysia

Night markets are one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city. Famous night markets like Petaling Street (KL), Shilin Night Market (Taiwan) and Ladies Market (Hong Kong) are considered must see attractions in their respective countries. For many visitors, the night markets are all about food, cheap bargains and experiencing the local culture. Many of my friends tell me the night markets in Taiwan WAY are better than Malaysia. However, is this true?

20th Century Fox Theme Park Construction Update 2017

It is now more than 3 years since closing of Resort World Genting's Outdoor Theme Park and announcement to build a new 20th Century Fox Theme Park. The opening date has been pushed back again and again, with the latest announcement last year saying that the park will open in early 2017. However, from what I saw at construction site, I honestly think that 20th Century Fox Theme Park will not open till at least 2018, or at the earliest, November 2017.

Overview of the construction of 20th Century Fox Theme Park at Resorts World Genting

You may see the previous construction update in March 2015 here.
